Justice for all Immigrants Statement on the Halt of the Harris County Immigrant Legal Services Fund (ILSF)

On June 26, 2026, the Texas Supreme Court issued a temporary order requiring Harris County to pause funding through the Immigrant Legal Services Fund (ILSF) while legal proceedings continue.
As one of the organizations funded through ILSF, Justice for all Immigrants (JFAI) is deeply concerned about the impact this funding pause will have on low-income Harris County residents facing immigration detention. Access to legal representation is essential to protecting due process and ensuring individuals have a meaningful opportunity to present their case before the immigration courts.
Since 2018, JFAI has partnered with Harris County and fellow legal service providers to represent detained immigrants through the Deportation Defense Program. The temporary pause in funding places these critical legal services at risk, with consequences that may include prolonged detention, family separation, financial hardship, and barriers to accessing justice.
