As Funding Cuts Take Effect, Immigrants Risk Losing Critical Legal Support

Updated: Jul 30

Justice for All Immigrants July 2026 newsletter cover featuring the title "On-the-Ground Updates" and the shadows of adults and a child walking together, symbolizing immigrant families, community, and access to justice.

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Behind every immigration policy decision is human life. It is a young man like Andrés, who followed the legal process and remains in immigration detention, fighting for the right to remain in the United States. At this moment, fear and uncertainty are weighing heavily on immigrant families, and we cannot allow their experiences to become just another headline.

Here in Texas and across the country, access to justice is under growing pressure. Funding interruptions threaten legal representation for detained immigrants and unaccompanied children, while proposed USCIS fee increases could place new financial burdens on aspiring eligible citizens. The fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo also reflects the devastating human consequences of an enforcement system that too often relies on aggressive tactics, racial profiling concerns, and policies that fail to recognize the humanity of immigrant communities. My heart is with every person who feels afraid, separated from loved ones, or unsure about what tomorrow may bring.

At Justice for all Immigrants (JFAI), our commitment does not change when the work becomes harder. We will continue to stand beside immigrants, protecting their legal rights and working to ensure that justice does not depend on a person’s income or circumstances. The courage of our clients and the compassion of supporters, like Veronica, remind us that even in painful times, people still choose to care for one another.

I invite you to stand with us. Your support keeps trusted legal help within reach and reminds our immigrant neighbors that they are seen, valued, and not alone. Together, we can protect human dignity and help make access to justice a reality for every person we serve.

With Gratitude,

Joy Green

Executive Director
